What Should Be Done When Different Smart Battery Models Are Connected in Series and ID Conflicts Occur?

Why do ID conflicts happen when different smart battery models are connected in series?

When different smart battery models are connected in series, each battery may use a default communication ID.

If two batteries share the same ID, a communication conflict occurs.

Changing the ID on only one battery does not necessarily solve the problem if the second battery remains configured with a conflicting default ID. In such cases, the communication issue simply shifts from one battery to another.

In addition, some battery models (for example, certain newer Polarium versions) do not allow modifying the Battery ID at the hardware level.

What is the available solution when the Battery ID cannot be changed physically?

A manual override capability was introduced via:

My Units → X-Ray Definitions → Smart Batteries

This allows manual override of:

  • Battery ID

  • Baud Rate

What is the configuration format?

The required format is: battery-x:ID,BAUDRATE

Where:

  • x = Battery number (1–20)

  • ID = Communication ID to assign

  • BAUDRATE = Communication baud rate (default: 9600)

Multiple batteries can be configured using semicolons: battery-2:214,9600; battery-3:215,9600

Example:

battery-1:214,9600
battery-2:215,9600

This structure overrides the Battery ID while keeping the default baud rate.

Is manual override recommended?

Manual override is not considered best practice and should not be used as a standard configuration method.

It may:

  • Complicate future troubleshooting

  • Make XRAY logic harder to trace

  • Increase the risk of configuration inconsistencies

  • Create long-term dependency on non-standard setup

What is the recommended best practice?

✔ Configure the Battery ID directly on the battery hardware to match the system’s expected configuration.
✖ Use XRAY manual override only when hardware limitations prevent ID modification.

When should manual override be used?

Use it only if:

  • The Battery ID cannot be changed at the hardware level

  • Mixed battery models create unavoidable ID conflicts

  • Communication fails due to ID collision

Summary

When different smart battery models are connected in series, ID conflicts may occur and cannot always be resolved physically.

The XRAY manual configuration provides a controlled workaround to override Battery ID and Baud Rate.

This solution must be used carefully and only when absolutely necessary.
