Preparation
Installation Preparation
Before you get started make sure you have the following:
Carlo Gavazzi EM210 Meter
The power source of +12V DC to power the Galooli RTU (Elara)/Carlo Gavazzi EM210
Power cables for the Elara/Carlo Gavazzi EM210 gateway - two cables with a thickness of 0.5mm. The length of the cables is determined by the distance between the power source and the Elara/Carlo Gavazzi EM210 Meter gateway
RS485 To USB Converter & two 0.5mm thick communication cables. The length of the cables is determined by the distance between the RS485 to the USB converter and the computer
Screwdriver (Slotted & Phillips)
Communication cables for the Carlo Gavazzi EM210 inputs and outputs. Cables with a thickness of 0.5mm. The length of the cables is determined by the distance between the sensors and the surrounding environment
Electronic tools – screwdriver, multimeter, & f-crimp tool
Additional information:
The device is designed to be installed on a din rail
Make sure that you have sufficient space for its mounting
We recommend mounting the AC meter next to phase breakers - this act can simplify the process of disconnecting the cables from the breakers, passing the load cables through the meter, and then connecting them back to the breakers
Configuration Preparation
PC or laptop computer
Galooli Software Solution link
Power Center installed - Click here to download.
RS485 to USB converter - Refer here for driver installation instructions.
Technical Booklet - Provided by Galooli Support team.
Note! Make sure your computer recognizes the COM port at the “Device Manager”. Otherwise, install the proper driver.
Power Connection
Connect the device to a power source with a minimum voltage of 40V. This AC meter's power pins are the phases themselves. One phase is enough to power the meter.
Make sure the LED is lit green.
Connection to the Computer
It is highly recommended that you perform this step within the office before you leave for the field
Connect the RS485 converter to the PC/laptop and connect the other ends of the wires to that AC meter. RS-458 Adaptor connected to the PC
Terminal number | Description |
16 | RS-485 B data port |
15 | RS-485 A data port |
ID Configuration
After everything is connected, we can start the process of changing the ID of the AC meter, according to the wiring diagram.
Open the Power Center.
Open the “Active Device” drop-down menu, and select the “Power Device”.
Open the “Connect Via” drop-down menu, and select the relevant Serial COM port.
Navigate to the “Services Center” tab and select AC Meter (EM210) - Make sure that the AC Meter is the only device connected to the computer!
The “AC Meter (EM210) Configuration Wizard” will pop up, click “Next”
6 Set the “Communication Baudrate” to 19200
Check the “ID Scan Mode” – to find the current ID default of the device
Please note! If the current device ID is set according to your wiring diagram, then no additional action is needed, and move on to the next stage.
Click “Next.”
In “Device ID” – set the ID device according to your wiring diagram, then click the “Set New Configuration” button.
Please note! Make sure that the “Communication Baudrate” stays on 19200.
10. An AC “Meter Configuration” window will pop up.
11. Click “Yes.”
12. Once the Power Center detects the device, values will appear in the “Reading Results” section:
13. Click on “Cancel” or the X icon and move to the next stage.
Elara Connection
Connecting the AC meter to the Elara Terminal Block
Connect the RS-485 cables from the AC meter to the Terminal Blocks of the Elara tray.
The terminal number on the AC
The terminal number on the AC | Description | Functionality |
8/9/10 | Phases and powering pins are the same. One phase is sufficient to power the unit | Power |
15 | Elara’s terminal block Orange A data port | RS485 A |
16 | Elara’s terminal block the Blue B data port | RS485 B |
Elara Configuration
After you have configured the ID of the device, you can now connect the AC meter directly to the Elara unit as described in the Carlo Gavazzi EM210 Installation document.
Open the PowerCenter (if the power center was already open, close it, and re-open it).
Open the “Active Device” drop-down menu and select “Elara”.
Open the “Connect Via” drop-down menu and select the relevant Serial COM port.
Navigate to the “Elara” tab.
Navigate to the “Configuration” tab
Click the “Read Configuration” button.
In the Configure tab click the “Add Port 1 Device”.
The “Elara – Modbus Device Configuration” window will pop up:
a. Open the “Devices” first drop-down menu and select “AC_ Meter”.
b. Open the “Devices” second drop-down menu and select “EM210.”
c. Choose the most suitable ring according to the size conversion ratio.
d. Input the ID of the sensor in the “Physical Device ID” & “Virtual Device ID” (according to the previous configuration).
e. Make sure the “Device Budrate” is 19200, as you set it earlier.
f. Click “Apply”.
Click the “Write Configuration” button to save the changes.
10. Click the “Reset” button.
11. Navigate to the “Status” tab to view the status of the AC Meter.
Phase Lines Installation
Safety:
Before installing the load cables and connecting the voltage lines, it is necessary to cut off the AC power. Once the wiring procedure is completed, you may turn the AC power back on
Any electrical installment should be carried out only by a certified high voltage electrician
After setting up all the configurations, we can start with the actual phase line installment.
The AC power meter is designed to operate on a 1 to a 3-phase system
For three-phase installations, all three load cables should be connected to the AC meter
For single-phase installations, only one load cable should be connected to the AC meter
Disconnect the phase wires from the circuit breakers.
Connect the phase power lines to the designated pins on the AC meter
a. 8 = phase 1(L1)
b. 9 = phase 2(L2)
c. 10 = phase 3(L3)
Reconnect the phase power lines to the original circuit breaker location.
PIN# | NAME |
---|---|
8 | L1 |
9 | L2 |
10 | L3 |
15 | RS485 A |
16 | RS845 B |
17 | GND |
CT Rings Installation
Carlo Gavazzi EM210 Ac meter works only with Rogowski CT ring.
The AC power cable should be threaded through the Rogowski CT ring as shown in the picture below.
Connect the cables from the Rogowski CT ring to the AC meter according to the relevant phase (according to the arrow).
