Introduction

The Door Sensor provides an open or close indication on-site by sending its readings through an IoT unit to the Galooli server. The primary function of this sensor is to provide a real-time indication of the status of any door/ lid; this helps to detect any potential dangerous / security hazards in real-time. 

Additional functionalities such as alerts & events can be defined using this sensor, notifying the user by SMS, email, or popup notification on the Zon Max platform.

Preparation

Before getting started, make sure you have the following items:

Door

Sensor

– includes two rods.
  • Laptop/ PC.

  • PowerCenter application installed - with credentials.

  • Zon Max application installed – with credentials.

  • Elara tray/shelter - including the Terminal blocks.

  • Tools:

    • Screwdriver flat & Philips (size?)

    • Electrical wires

    • Wire stripping tool

    • RS-485 to USB adaptor (for connecting to the Elara via PowerCenter - make sure to install the drivers)

    • Voltmeter (for troubleshooting voltage issues)

    Sensor description & assembly

    The sensor is made up of two metal rods. The first one includes the sensor processor, and the second one is a magnet, which provides an indicator if the door is opened or closed.

    Color of the wire

    Mounting the sensor

  • Locate the designated door/lid which you would like to mount.

  • Since the green wire of the door sensor may not be long enough – extend the wire from the IoT device to the door sensor’s installation location (for Green & Black wires only).

  • Try to conceal the sensors and their wires upon installation.

  • We suggest mounting the two metal door rods using regular screws.

    Please Note! The two rods should be parallel to each other when the doors are closed, with a minimum gap of 3[cm] (1”) - pay special attention to the red dots labeled on each rod - they have to be parallel and face the same direction.

    Wiring and installation

    Before getting started with the installation, make sure you have the wiring diagram relevant to your project readily available.

    Connect the Black & Green wires according to the following scheme:

    • Black wire – to a +12V DC power source.

    • Green wire – to the dedicated port on the Elara/EX device.

    • NC red wire – Do not use.

    Connect the IO wire (Green) to the dedicated IO port on the Elara device or the Terminal block.

    PowerCenter configuration

    Depending on your wiring diagram – you will view the data via the Ex20 status or through the Elara IO groups. 
     
    We have connected an EX20 unit in the above example and configured it to work with an Elara unit. 

    To configure the Door sensor, take the following configuration steps:  

    1. Connect the USB to RS485 converter to the computer /laptop. 

    2. Power up the EX20 device.  

    3. Connect the RS-485 A & B interface wires to the EX20 (directly or via TR7-DLS & TR7-BZR on the terminal blocks). If connecting on the terminal block, RS-485 A connects to TR7-DLS and RS-485 B connects to TR7-BZR.

    5. Open the “PowerCenter” app. 

    6. Open the “Active Device” drop-down menu and select “Power Device.”

    7. Open the “Connect Via” option on the drop-down menu and select the relevant COM port.

    8. Navigate to the “EX20” tab.

    9. According to your wiring diagram, select the relevant ID and click the “Read All Parameters” button.

    a) In the “Mode” drop-down list, select “Voltage.”

    b) In the “Description” drop-down list, select “Door.”

    10. Click on the “Write All Parameters” button.

    After you finish the configuration, check the Door sensor’s status via the Galooli EX20 device view in the PowerCenter:

    1. Open the “Active Device” drop-down and select “Elara.”

    2. Open the “Connect Via” drop-down and select the relevant COM port.

    4. Click the “Read Configuration” button.

    If you want to locate the Door sensor indication according to your wiring diagram, you’ll find it when you expand the Group: “GalooliEX20.” This is where you will be able to find the Door sensor’s operation indication. 

    Let’s take a look at an example of this below:

    Zon Max configuration

    Once you’ve completed the configuration in Power Center, you need to configure the unit in Zon Max.

    a) Open the Zon Max application and select the unit you need to configure.

    b) Open the Live Display tab and check the “Config” radio button.

    C) Scroll down to “SHELTER1/RECTIFIER1” section and check the “Shelter/Rectifier Exists” box and the “Door Sensor” box.

    D) Click “Save.”

    To verify, you can view the Door Sensor indication in ZonMax  – navigate to the “Live Display” tab, check the “Layout Display” radio button, and click the “Shelter/Rectifier1” tab.
